THE SAFETY PROGRAM

Which dog do you fear? Both of these dogs are family pets, yet the dog on the bed was given many luxuries and his family expected little in return. The pampered lifestyle along with the lack of obedience attributed to his potential danger. The Shepherd, lived an active social life because of her gentle disposition, good manners and her pleasant personality. Any dog is capable of hurting a child, yet it is too often the large dog owners that are targeted for a misbehaved pet. Health Canada Statistics have shown us that Cocker Spaniels have tied Rottweillers for biting. Train your dog today! Call 1-877-CAT-JACK |
The K-9 Safety Team been working towards dog bite prevention since 1995.
We receive approval from the Board of Education to annually attend each school annually, focusing on the primary grades. In order for any preventative strategy to be successful, repetition and reinforcement is needed. A work booklet is sent home, as we encourage parents to get involved with their children’s new awareness of dog safety.
The recent Provincial Inquest into dog attacks gave 35 recommendations to aid in the reduction of bites. Education was the main focus. Many parents and pet owners lack an understanding of basic dog behaviour and unintentionally encourage poor manners. We offer seminars and evaluations through city-endorsed programs.
"The Canadian
Veterinarian Medical Association recognizes that aggressiveness in all dogs and
the subsequent dangers to the public are largely a product of inappropriate
methods of genetic selection, rearing, and training." Health Canada
recently reported through the Canadian Hospitals Injury Reporting and Prevention
Program, (CHIRPP), the data collected concluded "it was clear that dog
bites are, to a point, preventable. The results support the argument that young
children, because of their lack of judgement or their difficulty in recognizing
the dog’s warning signs, are more likely to act in ways the dog considers
threatening."
The Cat & Jack
K-9 Safety Team provides interpretation of animal behaviour, useful
preventative strategies and safety rules for children to follow. It is the
responsibility of parents, pet owners and politicians to encourage these
precautionary methods and provide a safe environment for both children and pets.
"It is our goal, through education to create a generation of
compassionate, knowledgeable children that will someday become a more
responsible pet owner."
KIDS AND DOGS ARE WONDERFUL TOGETHER, WHEN ADULTS USE COMMON SENSE
